During their first season back in the Football League, The Imps picked up all six points against today’s opponents Stevenage. The Imps won the first meeting 2-1 on 9th September at the Lamex Stadium in front of a crowd of 3,427. Matt Godden gave the hosts the lead in the 26th minute. Things got worse for City when Matt Green received a second yellow card in the 52nd minute. Six minutes later Sean Raggett made it 1-1 and in the 75th minute, Ollie Palmer put The Imps ahead from the penalty spot. With 8 minutes to go, Luke Wilkinson was sent off for stamping on Alex Woodyard’s back.

The second meeting between the two sides, which was played on Boxing Day, was a far more comfortable match. City won 3-0 in front of a crowd of 9,268, with goals from Harry Anderson (34′), Matt Green (63′) and Josh Ginnelly (80′).

Onto this season and Stevenage away. The Imps won 1-0 at the Lamex Stadium on 8th December in front of a crowd of 3,552. John Akinde scored The Imps only goal of the match in the 11th minute from the penalty spot.

Anyway, time for the Q&A! Thank you to Stevenage supporter Gareth for answering our questions!

How long have you supported Stevenage?

I’ve been supporting Stevenage for roughly 16 years now.

Where did you finish last season?

My memory fails me. I think it was midtable somewhere.

What do you think of your Manager?

I was expecting more this season to be honest. He’s a bit of a hot head at times, but I think he will come good in the end.

What were your hopes and expectations at the start of the season?

Was hoping and expecting to maybe sneak a playoff place. Looking like it will be a midtable finish with our current performances.

One(s) to watch?

Cuthbert has been a beast at centre back this season. Chair, who recently joined on loan, also impressed on his debut.

Who do you think will finish in the top 7?

I think the current 7 will finish in the top 7. Perhaps in a different order though.

Who do you think will finish in the bottom 2?

Looking like Notts County. Bit surprising really as they were one of the promotion favourites at the start of the season. It’s also probably about time Morecambe went down. They struggle every season.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

They remind me of Stevenage a few years ago. Big strong and physical. Not the greatest team to watch, but very effective.

What do you think the score will be?

Can’t see anything other than a home win I’m afraid. Probably 2-0.

Random fact about your Club?

We were the first club to win a Trophy at the new Wembley stadium.

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would it be and why?

I would probably have Bostwick back. He was a good utility player during his time at Stevenage.

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Stevenage Supporter?

Proudest moments were the promotions from the Conference, promotion to League 1, and the win against Kidderminster at Wembley in the FA Trophy Final.

Most embarrassing is the relegation back to League 2 and the fisting Luton gave us a couple of seasons ago.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

Probably Nugent. Lots of our fans don’t rate him but I think he has been steady enough.

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

We have a Supporters Association. They organise transport to away games and make donations to the Club every season.

Which was your favourite match involving Stevenage?

The 3-2 win against Luton when Newton scored a last-minute winner. Limbs absolutely everywhere!

Which was your least favourite match involving Stevenage?

Grimsby (a). Think we lost 5-2 in the end. I was back in the bar before half time.

Do you have a Former Players Association at Stevenage?

Not as far as I know.

What’s the best thing about Stevenage?

Living in Biggleswade I don’t get there much other than for the football. The vast selection of fast food outlets always makes me happy.

What is the plan to develop the car park end of the ground?

The plan is to have a new north stand built but the process has been delayed somewhat. Had problems since day one. I’ll be glad when it’s done.

Is Paul Farman going to be a big a cult figure with you as he was with us?

I figure he was well-liked during his time at Lincoln. He lost his place in the team for a while when Dieng came in on loan, but soon recaptured his place when he left, and has impressed ever since.

Do Bostwick & Pett deserve praise or continual heckling (if selected)?

I’d never heckle a former player unless they left on bad terms. Wouldn’t surprise me if Pett gets some stick, but Bostwick should get a warm welcome.
