Imps News

“He is obviously in a rich vein of form and we need to tap into that.”

Ahead of Saturday’s match at home against Southend United in Sky Bet League One, we asked our members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what Impalex said:

1. We have made a cracking start to our first season in League 1 for 21 years and we first of all need to ensure that the run continues. In all three games so far, our pressing game up front and in the middle of the park, have taken much pressure off the defenders, therefore contributing to three successive clean sheets. A solid continuation of this will go a long way to building us another three points.

2. Keep the Bostwick/Bolger pairing at the back; the latter has done absolutely nothing wrong so far, indeed, he has had his best games yet for City. Make Shackell fight for his place.

3. Feed Harry Anderson at every opportunity, he is obviously in a rich vein of form and we need to tap into that. He and Jack Payne should be given carte blanche to run at the Southend defence and put the fear of God up them!

And here’s what Impala said:

1. Stay patient. Many in the stands will be expecting an easy win, but this is an established League One outfit who will take some beating. If the goals don’t come in the first 20 minutes, the Imps need to stick to their game plan, as chances will inevitably come as the game progresses. Southend only really threatened last week after Blackpool’s needless red card; don’t pass the impetus to the visitors.

2. Pace up front. Southend recently signed the experienced defender Liam Ridgewell, but last week Blackpool showed with their second goal that he is not the fastest. Surely opportunities for Anderson, Walker, Payne and Andrade to get round the back and take advantage of through balls from our midfield.

3. A squad game. With a flurry of midweek games, the Imps need to strike a balance between maintaining their early season form and rotating the squad, to give the likes of Bostwick and O’Connor a break. Bringing in Shackell without affecting the back four, and giving the likes of Chapman more minutes will be ever more important.
