Defender Sam Habergham may be poised to become Lincoln boss Steve Tilson’s first signing of the summer after the youngster was released by Norwich this week.

The 19-year-old, who had been on the Canaries’ books since he was nine, has been handed a free transfer by manager Paul Lambert, and that will have alerted Tilson who ran the rule over him in April when he featured for City’s reserves in a clash with Middlesbrough. which they lost 2-1.

Habergham, who was a member of England’s squad for the 2009 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, can play at either left-back or centre-half, had been a pro at Carrow Road since the summer of 2009, but the closest he got to a first-team outing was when he was an unused substitute away at Coventry just before Christmas.

And Tilson could step up his pursuit of the talented teenager following news that one of his targets, former Imps loanee Julian Kelly, has today penned a two-year deal with Notts County.
