A rather young Lincoln fans side valiantly played against a Grimsby side rich in experience and quality. The Imps had the early part of the play in both halves but failed to convert on a heavy pitch before the Mariners went ahead with an 18 yard rising drive. A second hotly disputed offside goal on the verge of half time saw Chisholm get the first of his brace. Chisholm added a third goal midway though the second half firing in a cross before Luke rounded off a scrambled fourth. Dan Taylor came closest for the Imps. Captain John Goulsworth saw a trademark 40 yarder go just wide at one end and his clearance come back off his own bar at the other.
