Frecklington is “Nearly back to his best and when he is, the opposition had better watch out”

Before our game away at Northampton Town, we published 3 Things We Need To Do To Beat Northampton Town.

What did we learn from Saturday’s 1-0 win away at Northampton Town?

1. At the last World Cup England spent a lot of time playing the ball back to the keeper, they struggled and their defence is much better than ours. We have a decent back line who in fairness do not want to lose the ball but on a couple of occasions, we gifted the forwards a one on one when we could have easily found a midfielder.

2. Maybe we should look at using the 4-4-2 but make sure it is 4-4-2 and not 4-4-1-1 with the hole player defending rather than joining in the attack, we have two decent forwards now who can run off each other’s knock-ons. Our wing backs are well capable of finding space beyond the midfield. Akinde has real pace and once he gets used to our players and style of play will be a real threat with Green, Rhead also changes things for the better coming on and providing a different threat.

3. Frecklington looks a lot fitter to me, did a lot more running in midfield and got forward a lot better. A point that member Impalex clearly agrees with: “looks a lot fitter than end of last season. Nearly back to his best and when he is, the opposition had better watch out!”

In our “Rate The Players v Northampton Town” thread, one member described Frecklington’s performance as “streetwise”, while another said, “Didn’t really notice him until the booking which was unnecessary”.
