It has been confirmed today that former Ipswich Town and Lincoln City midfielder Teddy Bishop has signed a two-year deal on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old has become the 11th signing of the summer for The U’s, who are managed by Danny and Nicky Cowley. He joins several other former Lincoln City players: Jack Payne, Tom Hopper, Alex Woodyard and Harry Anderson.

Teddy Bishop said (from Colchester United official website: “I would have liked to have been here and settled maybe a couple of weeks ago, but it’s been in the pipeline for a little while. It was just a big decision for me, but I think I’ve made the right decision.

“I believe in the project, the managers had put together a really good presentation to me and I like where the club is going. Danny and Nicky have proven promotions from this league, so that was another factor for me.

“The players they’ve signed have all got experience in League One or higher, so I think we’re putting together a good squad.”

Reaction on the forum:

Scotimp: “Sounds like the conclusion of a summer that has gone badly wrong for Bishop – three days before the new season starts, he drops to a side at the foot of L2 after an unsuccessful trial at Charlton. I wonder whether he asked Lincoln if the door was still open, given the strange timing of his farewell message yesterday? Between the lines, does he feel that Charlton messed him around?”

mikeosullivan: “Good move for him. If anyone can get the best out him it will be the Cowleys – they had a decent record here for getting value out of players with poor previous injury records.”

hulloutpost: “I would like to see the Bishop move work out for the player and his manager(s) for obvious reasons. Throw in the other former Imps there, most of whom contributed commendably in their time with us, and I will be watching closely whilst wishing them well.

Colchester are my second team for this season, even if Smalldicks did play for them previously.”

Hully – my League 2 team is also Colchester United simply because the Cowleys went there and there’s a very early chance to watch them live as their game at AFC Wimbledon will be live on Sky at 3pm on Saturday, although if you are goin to the Pirelli, you probably won’t be watching!
Next Tuesday’s game Vs Reading in the Carabao Cup clashes with City’s home game Vs Harrogate Town so, forgetting the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, their next televised game in League 2 will be on September 28th away to Walsall with a 12:30 kick-off.
