City announced the signing of former Premier League side Crystal Palace Rob Street yesterday from League Two side Cheltenham Town for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old has had loan spells at Torquay United, Newport County and Shrewsbury Town in recent seasons and has signed a four-year contract. He turned down a contract extension with the Eagles to join Cheltenham Town last summer.
Thank you to Jon Palmer from Gloucestershire Live for answering a few questions following the arrival of Rob Street at Lincoln City. You can out more about Rob Street by viewing the Q&A HERE!
You can discuss this news on the forum here and many other topics on our 100% Imps forum!
He said: “I cannot wait to play in front of these fans – I’ve played here twice before and it’ll be brilliant to have the 617 Squadron and the rest of the supporters right behind me. I’ll give them 100% in every game.
“Lincoln City is an ambitious club, which was really evident with the approach in the second half of last season, and it was clear after speaking to the head coach that there’s a desire to maintain that momentum. I want to be a part of that.”
Head Coach Michael Skubala said: “Rob will add quality and depth to our forward options, which we will need to compete on all fronts next season. He has strength, pace, athleticism and physicality, plus the technical attributes to score goals. Rob now needs to convert potential into consistent performances and we think that we can help him to do that in our environment. He is a really strong signing for the club.”
Director of Football Jez George added: “We have tracked Rob for two years. We retained our interest in Rob despite a tough time for him last season and we were able to get this deal done because of those circumstances.
“Rob’s goal stats belie his qualities, and we are more interested in his underlying metrics and data which fit our profile for this position. Rob has a unique combination of attributes which makes him a really exciting prospect.
“This is our type of ‘under the radar’ signing and the length of contract demonstrates our belief in Rob. He knows all about League One, he is ready to contribute immediately and he has the elite mentality required to maximise his undoubted potential.”
Reaction on the forum:
Impish: “As expected with lots of rumours over the last couple of days, Rob Street joins the Imps. It’s another 4-year contract, wow! Shows that the club have huge faith in the young striker. As has been mentioned numerous times, he has not got a great goal-scoring record, however, Cheltenham fans are bemoaning losing him as the brightest talent so I fully trust our recruitment here.
Welcome to SB Rob.”
sedgleyimp: “We’ve been expecting this one for a few days now and it’s another good signing.
Pretty much think that the midfield and forward line barring any departures is now set. Possibly a bit more width on the right. Defence reinforcements now to be looked at I’d suggest.
Very smart haircut which bodes well
Another 4-year deal as well. Lots of forward planning being done”
hulloutpost: “Lots of commentary that his high energy levels and press are a big feature of his game.
Along with for example the JJ signing and increased numbers for the central engine room areas it is fuelling my theory that we will be looking to implement a much more sustained high press and tempo.”
