Doncaster Rovers 0-0 Lincoln City: Match Stats & Views From The Forum

|

Views from PerthImp following the 0-0 draw away at Doncaster Rovers in League One: “At least a game of football broke out in the second half, mainly Doncaster. I think we got sucked into their game and didn’t play with enough composure. The midfield dropped off a bit in the second half and failed to find decent passes. We just seem to have lost our way in the final third of the pitch this season, which is really disappointing with the number of international breaks we’ve had to work on tactics and improving players, but even after nearly three weeks we don’t seem to have changed anything at all. Roll on January. In the meantime, we have Pompey and the Cowleys to think about on Tuesday. I really hope we can rise to the challenge. Come on you Imps.”

clanfordimp: “Very uninspiring, created one great chance in the first half that should have been buried.

Overall two very average teams on the day but the difference between 1 and 3 points is 5 places in the league which would have put us 11th and well in touch of the play-off places leading up to the January transfer window, which is a pressure one for the recruitment team because we really do need better quality in the squad.”

Scotimp: “On a positive note, we are only the third side to keep a clean sheet at Doncaster this season, after Portsmouth and Wycombe. They beat MK Dons last month and have won one and drawn three of their last five games, so they are actually harder to beat than their league position suggests.

Despite this being their first clean sheet, Lincoln are pretty good defensively – only five sides have conceded fewer goals, and only three sides have scored more than once against them.

The problem is up front, only five sides have scored fewer, and Michael Appleton has acknowledged this on numerous occasions. So why is anyone surprised when Lincoln fail to score?

If MA can get the forwards he wants in January, the fact that the defence is solid bodes well for the second half of the season.”

mikeosullivan: “I don’t think it is entirely fair of MA to be critical of his forward options. He decided Anderson, Zeb, and Archibald were not for him and agreed to them being moved out, despite knowing that Johnson and Rogers would not be coming back.

It now starts to look like he thinks Adelakun is not his type of player either, and possibly the next will be N’Lundulu.

I’m not saying releasing the three wide players was a mistake, but I just don’t think MA can seemingly wash his hands of the decisions that must have been taken and then complain about his lack of forward options. We were only missing one forward today after all – albeit a crucial one (Hopper).”
