DC: “We know how much they care and how much they love the club.”

A self-confessed ‘frazzled’ Danny Cowley de-briefed what has been a hectic period of activity both on and off the pitch ahead of the match against Notts County.

Transfer Window: DC recapped that his priority had been to ensure The Imps against the variables that could prevent promotion and on a personal level he was pleased with the outcome asserting ‘we’ are now well equipped for the challenges ahead.

Due to the unpredictable nature of Josh Vickers injury, he felt the signing of such an experienced GK in Matt Gilks provided the necessary protection. Brown provided cover for both FB positions, Bolger allowed for tactical flexibility with Bossie, Mark O’Hara will bring athleticism, legs and energy to midfield, Jordan Robertson flexibility of LW and number 9, likewise Rowe in the number 10 and wide roles. Lee Angol can play off Rheady, alternatively as the first forward in partnership with Akinde or even as the lone striker.

DC was quick to praise the board for player retention having received significant offers for some of the younger players. He painted a very positive picture of his discussions with those players. DC pointed out that he was player centric and wouldn’t stand in their way if he felt they had developed as far as they could with City. However, the players in question recognised themselves that they are developing every day at Lincoln and didn’t want to leave. They understand that they can progress with the Imps rather than be competing with a squad of 30 in a Championship side. DC still expects Ellis Chapman to go on loan but is being very picky about the right manager taking Ellis under his wing. DC would prefer a 93-day loan with the option of a recall.

Notts County: They are a great club steeped in tradition and after tomorrow he will be wishing them well in their quest for survival. Possible reasons for their struggle this season are the changes of manager allied to injuries for key players. DC does not underestimate the nature of the task as they have some of the best wide players and forwards in the division; also recent draws against Bury (should have beat Bury 3-0) and Colchester away from home. There will be no complacency. It is more difficult to assess County due to their influx of recent signings. To counter that DC has paid attention to the particular individual assets of the new players and how that is likely to fit into County’s system. DC feels there is not a gulf between the personnel of either side especially with the new recruits providing tremendous grit, determination and experience to the spine of their side. That will undoubtedly rub off on the other players that were already at the club. This will be the best version of Notts County this season that takes to the field and it is up to Imps to assert themselves.

The players should be proud of a 4k away following having captured the imagination of the fans. It is never taken for granted and the players have a responsibility to such an away support especially off the back of last years result there and in view of how the fans stuck with the side that day.

Matt Rhead: Contract extension discussions have been entered into. DC laughed out loud when he saw that Rheady had been linked with Exeter pointing out, ” He doesn’t like coming to Lincoln let alone Exeter”. Obviously, Rheady would love to play every week but he understands his role with the team and is vital on and off the pitch as a player and character. Legend is an overused term these days but DC feels MR is a Lincoln legend and he loves having the big man around.

Miscellaneous: Cian Bolger injury was more of a muscle fatigue rather than strain having played two games on heavy pitches in four days and has been training today – Dc is hopeful of having him available.
