Crewe Alexandra 0-1 Lincoln City: Match Stats & Views From The Forum

|

Views from hulloutpost following last night’s 1-0 win away at Crewe Alexandra in League One: “Fantastic football for the first hour and resolute defending for the last 15 minutes. The only downside to the win, performance and another clean sheet is the amount of energy that had to be put into that last 15.

Crewe never really looked like scoring but that energy should have been in the bank for Saturday. We should have been stroking the ball around with a three or four-goal lead leaving Crewe only pride to play for and not the incentive of an outside chance of an undeserved point. ”

imps_joe: “Another 3 points. Boy did we make hard work of that. Should have been out of sight at half time (again finishing hasn’t quite been there!). It was like the players changed shirts at 60 mins. Must say, a brilliant battling performance for those final 15 minutes. Montsma and Walsh were excellent. Suprised MA didn’t put any subs on, the midfield was crying out for some fresh legs. That said we got the points and thoroughly deserved to over the 90 minutes. Delighted with the win!”

GreenNeedle: “Monstma was a different class tonight. In defence, he dominated everything but the range of passing in the first 60 minutes was “Gerrardesque” at his peak.

Harry Anderson is also a much-improved player this season. He used to run into cul de sacs and quite often either leave the ball behind or his runs ended in goal kicks. Now when he gets the ball it always ends up with a reward, be it a corner, cross, key pass or goal.”

Merthyr Imp: “Not much more to add to what others have said.

I noticed (unless it was my imagination) that after Edun missed that header in the first half when the ball went over his head Hopper was back in the left-back position to help him out with a couple of headers away. After we reduced Crewe to just lumping the ball in the box for the last 20 minutes I did wonder whether Roughan might come on a left-back, but Edun did pretty well.

After Montsma I thought McGrandles was our best player. A little disappointed in Jones overall, but in the second half he was having to do a lot more defending.”

Gaz_Imp: “Hard not to get carried away isn’t it? Love how many players we get forward until we feel a need to see it out, who wouldn’t? Always exciting to have a team who attack as a unit.

But then also defended really well. Montsma and Walsh were excellent again. And credit Grant who did his defensive work very well.

Exciting going forward. Resolute at the back. Top of league 1. Great times.”
