A striker is at the top of the agenda for Lincoln City, with manager Danny Cowley hinting they may have to splash the cash in order to bring another frontman to the club.

The Imps currently have last season’s top scorer Matt Rhead, along with summer signings Matt Green and Ollie Palmer as the only three recognised strikers at the club, and Cowley says he wants a nice little quartet at Sincil Bank.

He said: ‘I would like us to go put some money into another forward as we only have three at the minute. Four would be ideal. We want someone to go and stretch the pitch, like Greeny and take some of the workload off him.’

Meanwhile, Cowley praised Neal Eardley’s contribution in the unfamiliar left-back role, with the former Premier League star impressing in Sam Habergham’s absence. He said: ‘Neal has done so well there – you would never know he’s right-footed, would you? All summer long, Nicky has been saying ‘I want Phil Neville, I want Phil Neville”, as we cannot really afford to have two players for every position, so you need a couple of versatile ones and he ticks a lot of boxes as he can play either side.’
