Potential Lincoln CIty target Michael Cheek won’t be re-joining his old boss Danny Cowley at Sincil Bank after penning a two-year contract with Dagenham & Redbridge.

The 25-year-old, who scored 19 National League goals last season for relegated Braintree, was rumoured to be on the Imps’ radar this summer, but this morning he opted to stay in the top tier of the non-league pyramid with the Daggers.

Cowley described Cheek as ‘the best all-round forward in the Conference South’ when he signed him when Iron boss two summers ago from Chelmsford City after netting 32 goals in 66 games for the Clarets, and despite scoring 34 times in the National League over the past two seasons, a move to the Football League has not been forthcoming.

In other transfer news, a possible move for loanee Billy Knott has moved a step nearer after his parent club Gillingham announced that they would not be looking for a fee for the talented midfielder despite him having one year left on his current contract at Priestfield Stadium.

The Canvey Island-born 24-year-old spent the last three months on loan with City and scored once in 16 outings as he helped the Imps win the National League title. Boss Cowley remains interested in the playmaker, but wages could have a major bearing on whether Knott pulls on the red and white of Lincoln next season, while other clubs are said to be interested in the former Bradford schemer.

Also, according to local reports in the press, Cowley has put three bids in for ‘young’ players, of which two of those offers have been accepted by their respective clubs, although the City manager admitted it will ‘take time’ to get the deals over the line.
