Michael Appleton was asked about the relationship with the local press ahead of today’s match against Charlton Athletic and said it was important to have good lines of communication with local journalists, as that was how most fans got their news about the club.

In that vein, he was asked about the availability of recently injured players. There was some good news with McGrandles, Walsh and Maguire likely to be available. Josh Griffiths would also be available unless there was any adverse reaction to his recent thumb injury.

Most of last year’s clean sheets came when Walsh was in the side and that was no coincidence. Asked about achieving a first clean sheet in the league, Appleton said it was something they were keen to achieve but just as important was making sure chances at the other end kept being created.

MA was surprised at Charlton’s start to the season and expected them to climb the table with the talent they had especially in attacking areas. However, he hoped they wouldn’t start that climb for another week.

Asked how important the next few weeks were with a number of winnable games, giving Lincoln a chance to also move up the league, MA agreed but expressed the realism that with limited attacking options it wasn’t going to be easy.

He said they are working hard, to be in a position where the attacking players the club needs, can be brought to the club in January.

It’s what the small squad of players need to help them move forward for the rest of the season.
