Lincoln will have to pay Torquay £35,000 for winger Mustapha Carayol after the two clubs agreed upon a fee without the need for a transfer tribunal despite being at loggerheads over the transfer all summer.

The money will be paid in stages to the Gulls, while there is also a sell-on clause included in the deal. The hastily-arranged agreement comes as something as a surprise considering the Imps were adamant they did not want to pay Torquay anything for a player who spent two years with the Plainmoor club.

But as Lincoln chairman Bob Dorrian told BBC Lincolnshire: ‘We were able to put a proposition to them which, with a few adjustments, they agreed to on Monday morning – we were a way apart at one stage.

‘There is a fee involved and there’s appearance money and a sell-on clause. We’re very happy with the deal. We think we’ve signed an excellent player and he hasn’t cost us an awful lot of money in real terms.’
