Cambridge United 2-0 Lincoln City: Views & Stats

Views from WellingtonImp following today’s 2-0 defeat away at Cambridge United in League One: “Just one win in seven – and that was down to a Scully goal and assist, with some desperate hanging on after being two goals up. Just saying.

It was always going to be a slow start for us but has to be a concern that we haven’t resolved the problems across the back. Hopefully, with players coming back from injury, we’ll find some form. Nothing to inspire any optimism from today’s meek display.”

PerthImp: “Nothing second half. Both teams cancelled each other out, although Cambridge didn’t really have to do anything special to secure the win – they had done enough in the first half. Get the impression the new Lincoln signings need to settle in and develop their team play – too many wasted passes today. That should hopefully sort itself out with a couple of weeks training. We’ll see.”

Imprest 1: “Frustrating scrappy game, started ok with a couple of shots from Bish. Better second half, but no real attacking threat, never looked like scoring. Cambridge were happy enough to defend.. The end.”

mikeosullivan: “Very poor display against an average side. If we have more performances like this, we will be in the relegation scrap others have predicted.

Oakley-Booth and Bishop strolling around in midfield like we were winning 2-0, not losing, no pressing, no tackling. House out of his depth, Diamond showing why Sunderland don’t want him (no final ball), and the less said about TJ’s first half the better.

We need Sanders fit and a hard-working midfield of Sorensen, Sanders and Virtue – otherwise performances like this will be the rule rather than the exception.”

APHLCFC: “7 games in and we look a pretty poor side. I’m not sure how we’re expecting to win games. We don’t have a team capable of outplaying teams, we also don’t have a team that can compete physically.

It felt like a poor transfer window, I think we’re short just about everywhere except goalkeeper, central defence and lightweight midfielders.

For all Kennedy’s talk of not being run over by physical teams, we still look very soft.

I can’t where the goals are coming from, coupled with a suspect-looking defence and non-existent midfield that’s a bad mix.

This isn’t a reaction solely to today, aside from one half against Oxford and a couple of good spells against FGR and Fleetwood we’ve looked second best.

I accept there are teams in this league we can’t expect to compete with over the course of a season. We should be able to knick a win or two from the likes of Cambridge, FGR, Exeter and Fleetwood though.”
