Views from sedgleyimp following yesterday’s 2-1 win away at Burton Albion in League One: “Back home after a good win, but a really quite unnecessary stressful last ten minutes today. I thought we were pretty good value for the win overall, but really should have put it to bed well before they had the late chances to get a point. What a magnificent save by Griffiths in injury time. I was in the line of it from our end and thought it was in, but just superb by Josh to keep it out. Then very brave going in with feet thrashing to grab the ball right at the death. Great stuff by him.
Overall a good 3 points against a Burton side who are quite direct but cause problems. I thought that N’Lundulu was very good at leading the line and showed a lot of strength throughout. Our back four and Josh in goal played well to keep them out. Poole man of the match for me. I lost count of the number of blocks and clearances with his head today. The captain’s role brought the very best out of him.”

LA_Imp: “Well 3 points is 3 points but dear god we made hard work of that. I think that meant a lot to the players and Burton were never going to give up. Some unbelievable misses at the end but I think the overall team morale that this win produces will probably be the most important takeaway.
Mentions to Poole and Griffiths for two stand-out performances. Glad to Nlundulu get his start and cause some problems. Could be very good when he hits his fitness. Bishop disappointing and I thought Fiorini dropped off the second half.
Now let’s put a couple of wins together and get into the top half.”
PerthImp: “Phew – what a game. We tried really hard to encourage Burton by keep giving them the ball. The chances missed by Scully & Longdon really kept the pressure on us, but the players really dug deep in the end and fought for every ball. MoM has to be Griffiths – he made three outstanding saves and came and caught the ball when the defence was under heavy pressure.”
Brendan Bradley: “The Xg on the game (basically 3-1 to Burton) shows how ludicrously misleading stats can be.
After the second goal, I never felt, despite home pressure, that the result was particularly in doubt, and the game had almost petered out when Burton scrambled their goal. What followed after that was crazy.
During the match, we scored twice, missed two one-on-ones and an open goal from a yard out, had several other opportunities (we’d had four attempts on target in the first 10 minutes) yet our Xg is meant to be 1.1?
We did concede an awful lot of chances ourselves though. Literally, a minute after we’d scored when they gave us the ball in a dangerous position, we obligingly did the same for them but the (allegedly) £1m loan striker missed a much easier chance than Fiorini scored from. The same player had his point-blank header well saved by Griffiths and there were other scrambles in front of our goal. I was wondering why only Poole seemed to be winning any headers back there?
Despite that, when we do put it together we have a team so very good to watch. Whilst I’d sooner our players cut out the stupid mistakes I’d far sooner watch a team playing this way. It makes football fun and something to look forward to. Long may it continue.”
