Following Tuesday night’s 1-0 win away at Burton Albion in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

You can discuss what has been said in this article HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum! We have also published a Lincoln City v Burton Albion Quiz, which can be found just below the first three things. Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. It’s great to support a team at our level. Can you just imagine what it must be like to be a supporter of the six English Judas clubs at the minute? I have sympathy with the true supporters of those teams involved dragged into mutiny by the greed of their owners. There are without doubt many a Johnny come lately at each of those teams, but there are also generations of supporters who can trace their support back to grandparents and perhaps beyond. Those are the supporters who have been stabbed in the back by megalomaniacal ownership and can see their team being taken away from them. But we are in the happy position of having a team who know how important the supporters are, how important football is to the community that surrounds it. We won tonight, but even if we hadn’t you can still be delighted that this club is our club and in very good hands.

2. Never call it quits until the fat person sings. (no not Evans, though cheers for beating Posh Steve). It was only a few short weeks ago that most of us had written us off for the end of the season. Automatic spots out of the window and Play-Offs unlikely. So now in the space of fewer than 300 minutes of actual playing time, we are still in with a decent shout of those top two spots. We will need some other results to go our way and specifically that means Doncaster to find some form, but we are in with a shout if we keep winning.

3. Burton’s upturn in form has been clearly down to what Hasselbaink has brought to the club, but tonight you saw the difference in managerial styles and I much prefer what MA does for us. You could hear Jimmy and his assistant Maarmia shouting at their players all match. I think as a player that can become confusing and disheartening. MA trusts the players to play the game as planned beforehand and that gets the best out of them.

Which club did Nigel Clough join after resigning as Burton manager in January 2009?

And here’s what Chesterimp said:

1. Those (few) who still think MA and his players are a bit flaky in comparison with their immediate predecessors, what with the pretty football, should register how the last few games have gone. Injuries, fragile form, then the second Covid outbreak postponing two games and closing the training ground meant going into the Blackpool game with underprepared players and several key ones absent through injury. At 2-0 down, confidence and form low, a couple of lucky breaks might just prove to be the turning point of this season as the players showed character to fight back to draw and follow with 3 successive wins. As DC might have said, this squad is rich in minerals.

2. For the first time in several weeks this was a comprehensive team performance throughout the match. Less of a threat in the second half but it still felt controlled and incisive when the opportunity arose.

3. Callum Morton may not enjoy the central, back-to-the-goal striker role but he’s starting to get good at it, which can only benefit his long-term development. Like Hopper earlier in the season, his contribution is under-appreciated by some but it’s a key part to the recent return to winning ways.
