“Bruno’s goal was a moment of individual brilliance.”

Views from Joseph Lovett following Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Notts County in Sky Bet League Two: “What a hugely disappointing game. We were very poor today. The ref was just plain crap. With the away fixtures we have left we really could have done with 3 points.

As much as we didn’t look like top of the league, Notts County didn’t look like bottom. They played some nice football, looked good going forward and defended Akinde very well. They just wanted the game more.

There are very few positives from that game apart from Rowe, Anderson and Bruno looked very good running at players. We were too rigid and were very laboured going forward, often we were playing extra unnecessary passes. We didn’t win any second balls in midfield and struggled to get a grip on the game. We got the ball in decent areas, particularly our wide, but the delivery in the box wasn’t good enough. Added to that Bossie goes off injured.

I’m not entirely sure the ref has a clue what the rules of football were. The first penalty for County stunned me, looked like a clean tackle to me. Then unbelievably, didn’t give what looked like a stone wall one for County straight after ours. His decisions throughout the game were erratic and just plain wrong, for both teams!

Bruno’s goal was a moment of individual brilliance. The shot didn’t have much power, but, was placed brilliantly. The worry is that a lot of the goals recently have come from moments of pure brilliance rather than put pressure on and getting a goal. I felt a bit sorry for Akinde because he was very isolated and all the balls were in the air to him. We all know he wants the ball to his feet or in front of him. County kept playing balls into the feet of their strike, he would thrive off that. That said, his confidence in front of goal currently is alarming. At the moment he doesn’t look like he wants to shoot and if he does he’s not striking the ball cleanly. Then to make matters worse, he misses a penalty. Needs that goal to get his confidence back!

Still top, still work to do. My away record has been very poor this season (Grimsby, Macc Town, Tranmere, Oldham, Crewe and now County), but I think that was the last one I can go to. So hopefully things pick up!”

More views from the Match Thread:

hulloutpost: “Genuine 9 points clear of 4th. Away games at Mansfield, MK, Carlisle and FGR looking absolutely mahoosive. Do well there and keep winning the home games will get us over the line.”

Scotimp: “That’s five points from three successive away games – 1.66 per game. That’ll do nicely, even though we haven’t beaten the bottom side. Reminds me of the game at Barnet last season.

We have 9 home games remaining: win those, we are up. Simples.”

PerthImp: “Not too disappointed with a point overall. New players for County who fought really hard (a bit too hard at times) and found a bit of second wind when we missed the penalty. They were very ‘streetwise’ which is probably what County need. The ref for me really influenced the game with some crazy decisions – so inconsistent and complete lack of authority. Mind you, we really didn’t take advantage of County’s lack of energy and missing the penalty really cost us the win. Never mind – still top and 9 points clear of 4th. Stags looming large and that’s going to be a huge game.”
