After joining Lincoln City from Alfreton, Bradley Wood cannot wait for the new season to start and is aiming to get the Imps back to the Football League. After speaking exclusively to Sincil Bank’s new boy earlier on this month, I have been lucky enough to get the best XI from his career so far.
Bradley Wood has chosen a 4-3-3 formation.
GK: James McKeown – The best keeper I have played in front of. I felt quite reassured going forward knowing he was behind me. It’s always good when you have confidence in your keeper as he’s your back line and you know if you make a mistake he will be there to help you out.
RB: Robbie Stockdale – I played my debut when Robbie was injured but when he returned he still helped me through playing. To learn from Robbie has helped me develop as a player as he’s played at international level. You can also tell the quality he has as a footballer.
CB: Ryan Bennett – He is the best centre back I have played alongside. He talked me through the game very well. He could read play a few steps over everybody else in the division and that’s why he deservedly got a move to the top league.
CB: Liam Moore – I was in the Leicester academy with Liam and he was good then. He played a year above his age and didn’t look out of place. A physical lad who obviously deserves his chance in the top league.
LB: Tom Parkes – Tommy was my best pal through growing up in the Leicester academy and was a good left sided player. He was big, strong and powerful with great authority. He proved that with being vital in Bristol rovers promotion winning team.
CDM: John McGrath – A little guy but puts himself around. Loved him playing inside as he provided security and controlled the game with the tempo he wanted to set. He was a top bloke off the pitch as well.
CM’s: Andi Thanoj and Peter Sweeney – Both for the same reason. They could both pick a pass anywhere on the park. I knew as soon as they opened out to my side I was on my way progressing up the field. Both footed players one has been in the top leagues playing his trade (Peter Sweeney) and rightly so and the other just finding his feet in the game and been with Albania international team (Andi Thanoj).
ST: John Akinde – He is a handful for any defence. Again he is big, strong and has pace. He is also a horrible player to play against but great to have in your team as he could turn a ‘nothing’ ball into something good. The big man was rewarded with player of the year last year and the golden boot which was deserved!
ST: Liam Hearn – When Hearnzy was at Grimsby he was unplayable. He scored goals left right and centre. Loads of pace and he was powerful. Hearnzy was a goal machine and genuinely a player for a team who works hard and strives from confidence. I am looking forward to working again with Hearnzy this year.
ST: Alan Connell – Al was a different type of player to the other two strikers I have picked. The quality Al has is obvious. Free kicks became a specialty for him. It was a joy to see the quality Al has shown thought games and he was one where you would never take off as he would pop up with a goal out of nowhere!
GK: Kenny Arthur – Kenny is a great guy, he helped the younger lads out but was getting on a bit when I had the chance to play in front of him. He was quality but his banter was terrible!
CB: Nick Fenton – Fennerz was at Grimsby when I was in the youth team and I didn’t get a chance to play next to him but at Alfreton he was a great centre half. A big character and a big reason why we were successful.
ST: Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro – Another big powerful striker who was a menace for defences. Not the best finisher but was a great provider.
ST: James Norwood – I was as at England C with Nors and he was one of the best there. He was a very direct player who most managers would love to have in their team.
Defender/Midfielder: Dan Bradley – A direct player who is powerful and hard to stop when he is on his game. He is quality when needed and a top lad off the pitch too.
