Following today’s 2-1 defeat away at Oldham Athletic in a pre-season friendly, I asked our members what three things they learned from the match.
Here’s what NottyImp said:
1. We play some tidy stuff, but the final ball from all players is often poor. Getting it wide is fine, but you then need delivery and men in the box to capitalise. Neither seems to be happening at the moment.
2. We look vulnerable on the break. Both goals came from breaks and we seemed to lack the nous to cover back when needed. As others have said, we’re missing Bridcutt. Let’s hope the rumour he’s injured isn’t true.
3. Possession is not equal to being effective. The Cowley teams were regularly “out-possesioned” but were effective in winning games. Anyone can switch it from side-to-side across the back and hold onto the ball, then play it into the front, only to see it passed back. Rinse and repeat.
