Following Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw at home against Wolves U21s in the Checkatrade Trophy, we asked our members what three things they learned from the match.
Here’s what buckielugger said:
1. Sam Slocombe has now had several chances and hasn’t really acquitted himself well in any of them. He certainly is NOT an Allsop. Grant Smith, on the other hand, seemed to do fine on the occasions he has been played and must be restored to number two keeper – just gone on loan though so not sure on recall position.
2. Other squad players: Bernard Mensah looked willing but not quite up to it. Maybe he will get one or two more sub appearances but that will be it I expect. (I may be proved wrong!)
Adam Crookes actually did a bit better and is clearly still learning. Much improved though from his debut first 45 minutes at Blackburn.
Ellis Chapman seemed more nervous on Tuesday night. Hope the unjust red card hasn’t affected him too much. He is a great prospect.
Kellan Gordon did a decent enough job and I would possibly start him ahead of Harry Anderson on the right wing for a few games. Harry seems tired at the moment so may benefit from a little rest.
3. Rhead and Green: Both did really well on Tuesday night, especially in the first half. Are they still our most effective forwards? Until John Akinde gets into his best form, then quite probably the two Matts are still the ones to do it for us.
Green took 2 of the 3 chances he had whilst Rheady was winning so much and nearly always finding someone. Excellent.
