This will be the nineteenth time Martin Coy has been the man in the middle for a match involving Lincoln City and the seventh time for a match involving visitors Barnsley.
His most recent match involving City was the 2-1 defeat at home in League One to Wigan Athletic in April last season when he showed 11 yellow cards, including bookings for Paudie O’Connor, Alex Mitchell, Sean Roughan, Reeco Hackett-Fairchild, Jovon Makama and Ben House.
He received an average rating of 1.69 following the defeat to Wigan Athletic. Some of the comments can be found below:
berksimps: “3.
Worst we have had for a while, little control or consistency, not helped by weak inadequate linesmen too often behind play.”
PerthImp: “2/10 – control, decision making and use of cards all inconsistent. A strong and disciplined referee for this game was needed and we didn’t get one (not putting all the blame on the ref but the officials certainly didn’t help).”
Woodis: “2. He was crap. They like a shirt pull, missed loads, gave some and inexplicably did caution a really obvious one he gave. Is doesn’t understand the shoulder charge rule, getting one wrong each way. Control – had none, he completely lost that game as shown by whatever the lad who was subbed was up to then the melee at the end. As for the linesman, there is no way that ball was out on the touchline. I waited this morning to comment so I could see it back, but 1) it wasn’t out, 2) he didn’t have a side-on angle to give it. A mistake of Busby proportions to screw us over.”
His last match involving Barnsley was their 3-1 win away at Burton Albion in League One. He brandished no cards in this match.
So far this season, he has refereed one match, showing 5 yellow cards in the League Two match between Barrow and Crewe Alexandra (1-0), including bookings for former Imp Paul Farman and former Barnsley players Andy Dallas and Kane Hemmings.
Martin Coy oversaw a total of 23 matches during the 2023/24 season, showing 98 yellow cards (4.26) and 3 red cards. He was most card-happy in our match against Wigan Athletic, showing 11 yellow cards.
