“As others have said, we rode our luck a couple of times.”

Views from Merthyr Imp following today’s 2-0 win at home against Charlton Athletic: “As others have said, we rode our luck a couple of times (no more) in the first half and it would have been encouraging to go into half time on level terms and regroup for the second half. But we did better than that, taking the lead at a crucial time and were then able to regroup from a position of strength. A good defensive performance then with Palmer having little to do.

Once again, such a good team performance that it’s difficult to think of a man of the match. Personally, I thought Grant had a disappointing game by his standards. A word about Bridcutt, who I thought played a key role today. Fairly recently I’ve been looking back on the 1975/76 season, and Bridcutt today reminded me of the way Dennis Booth used to play all those years ago, just in front of and helping out the back four.

I predict that Lewis Montsma won’t keep up his scoring run for much longer because teams will have seen what he’s doing at set-pieces and will set up to stop him.”

JT_LCFC: “Starting to look like a young mans game even more. 2nd half bearing in mind we played Thursday – Charlton were running through treacle. Interesting again to see the average ages again.

We rode our luck at times in the opening 30 minutes. But crucially finished the stronger and any Charlton backlash I expect second half filtered to dust pretty sharpish.

We might surprise one or two hey?”

Scotimp: “What a first month!

Putting the results and the financial windfall to one side for one moment, we have uncovered some real young gems in Montsma, Eyoma and Roughan – average age under 20. Perhaps we can persuade Spurs that they don’t need TJ?”

hulloutpost: “Just need to beat Gillingham and Fleetwood now and the respective managers for them along with Oxford and Charlton can have their own Champions League group level, whinge off.”
