Views from Impish following tonight’s 1-0 defeat at home against Manchester United U21s in the EFL Trophy: “Thing is, although we lost, we didn’t look like a side short of confidence at all, in fact, I thought we looked decent. It was a mixture of bad finishing from us good defending from them and the ball not running much for us all evening. Manchester United were time-wasting from the time they scored against the run of play and it was frustrating that we couldn’t get the goals we probably deserved on the balance of play.
All in all, I would imagine Appleton will be reasonably happy with the performance given who played. Doesn’t get any easier with Sunderland coming to town on Saturday though.”
More views from the Match Thread:
JT_LCFC: “Don’t take chances you don’t win games. Had 5/6 real golden opportunities tonight and failed to convert. In the main played relatively well, if Walker has played tonight fancied us to have won that. I have given Akinde the benefit of the doubt but he isn’t up to this standard of football.”
I thought we played very well in patches and at times we carved them open. We just look a bit naive in both boxes at present.
I still think we have a decent squad for this level of football. But we do need a result.”
German Imp: “Behave, everyone, pretty decent performance for me, more shots on target, appreciate non in the onion bag – wip – and better than previous weeks.
Lewis and Chapman were the two standouts for me.”
imps_joe: “Obviously we’re not too fussed about the competition. However, it’s disappointing to see the same defensive frailties and poor finishing from a completely different set of players.
A mixture of excited dread going into Saturday. We could get ripped apart. Hopefully, it’s an underdogs performance that kick starts the season (again).”
PortMacImp: “Lewis played well for the full game with some decent right-footed crosses and more impressively cut inside several times and delivered some excellent left-footed crosses. Also performed his defensive duties well and looked to get forward whenever possible. Could he play further up the field, right-wing or midfield?”
