Aldershot The Must Win Game

This game will mark the Imps 197th day since a win on a Saturday and with it being our last home game of the season this is one ticking albatross we do not want to carry through the summer.

Shocking though the statistic is, the Imps have become a very hard team to beat both home and away. The midfield motorway has been cured and the emergence of Kovacs and Swaibu as well as the remainder of the quintet has restored confidence. Yet on Saturday the emergence of attacking football will be the thing that carries us through a summer of rebuilding. When you step out of a car or from beneath your I Pod earphones, the last tune is the one you remember all day. So this last game needs to be a win even if it is not a feast of football. In his first full season Peter Jackson has achieved half the job within a budget. His personality and contacts will no doubt ensure the job is completed over the summer. The fans however will need some sustenance to help them through the summer drought and a win will boost season ticket sales and thus the budget.

Saturday is not do or die for anyone, but an attacking performance with some goals is just what the Imps need be they Passionistas, sponsors or players wanting either moves or new contracts. The home fans passion has been a shining light this season given the home performances from the Imps. Calling it the last chance saloon is a bit strong, but a couple up the Stacey West second half on Saturday will linger long in the memory. The last thing we need is a bore draw or defeat which would see few hang around for an ill deserved lap of honour.
