Views from sedgleyimp following Saturday’s 2-2 draw away at Swindon Town in Sky Bet League Two: “Okay have caught up on this thread so will give my views of the match which can be split into three parts.

With 11 players we were disjointed and second best and would have been behind if it wasn’t for two very good saves from Vickers (though one might have been offside..overhead kick by them??)

Far too many hopeless balls forward giving Akinde nothing to work with and leaving him isolated.

Then came Andrade’s piece of nonsense for which he was rightly sent off. A petulant kick out at an opponent off the ball is bang out of order. So we are then down to 10 players which led to us playing far better and we grab two decent goals before the break. Their keeper should have kept Shackell’s shot out but we’ll take it, then McCartan’s gem which is right up there with the best I’ve seen by a City player. Brilliant volley.

So at half time the team has already shown it’s a never say die attitude in those 15 minutes before the break but it was clear that they would come out in the second half and the introduction of Doughty brought them back into the game.

There will be a lot of ifs and buts discussed over the coming days as to whether we would have kept them out if they hadn’t got an early one in the second half as we were very tight up to the penalty. Freck got caught out and did clip their player. This then led to the next stage of the game

9 players. Shackell getting a second yellow for I assume dissent. Honestly, if you are on a yellow don’t shout at the referee.

So it’s real backs to the wall for the best part of 40 minutes and the players perform heroics. The number of blocks and tackles were immense. Bostwick and Wharton were throwing themselves at everything. Unfortunately, it becomes defence v attack due to sheer numbers and credit to Swindon that they played it well by playing it wide constantly meaning we could not just pack the box. We were so close to keeping them out but a bit of clever play by Doughty got them level.

Further heroics kept a hard-earned point for us, though, which under the circumstances of the game felt like a win.

So overall a very good point earned with a heroic battling performance. Shackell has been a great player for us but needs to keep it buttoned up.

Andrade just needs to really think what he’s doing. Inexcusable play by him but strangely seemed to kick start our performance.”

Will take a bit of time to read through all the posts before putting my bit in but honestly what big balls our players have. With some obvious exceptions ( one more than the other) to a man, they put themselves on the line in that second half. Normally to lose a two-goal lead leaves you deflated. That rearguard effort has had the opposite effect. Great effort.”
