“A nice move from Akinde and a nailed on penalty.”

Views from Huntsward following Saturday’s 1-0 win away at Stevenage in Sky Bet League Two: “Terrific performance today against a difficult side. Certainly not the most fluid of attacking games but it was unlikely to be against them. We scored at the right time. A nice move from Akinde and a nailed on penalty.

They reminded me of us of yesteryear, physical and difficult to play against, without masses of quality but bullying their way through games against the better teams. Fortunately, we dealt with that and came out on top.

A great defensive display. Despite their possession, I never felt particularly threatened. Barring an unforced error, we were not conceding today.”

impsimps: “You win games in different ways, this was never going to be a flowing performance but was gritty and determined, a well-deserved win. John 29 started very lively, won the penalty, scored it, but just before halftime got booked which took a lot of his challenging game away for the second half. Our midfield and defence were superb restricting the other lot to a couple of half chances at most. They were a physical side studs showing and all that, Toffolo and Andrade took some tough treatment and got subbed. Smith had a fine game, very secure, inspired confidence, took a bad knock after about 15 seconds! but recovered after about five minutes of treatment. Man of the match, along with Shackell, Freck and Boswick, all played well though, no weak links.
The away following were fantastic, sang and cheered them on the entire game. Three points thanks and on we go! UTI.”

StrangelyBrown: “First 25 minutes we looked sharp and had more than a couple of chances. Had the wind at our backs and I don’t think (the supporters) in the away end appreciated just how blustery the conditions were.

Stevenage crept back into it in the last 10 mins of the first half. 2nd half we dug very deep and defended well. Clean sheet as well.

Away end was noisy today and really got behind the team.

Thought the appreciation shown to Farman during the warm down was a really nice touch.”

berksimps: “I would say that in the area where we were in Block B everyone was very positive about John Akinde, particularly in the first half. Most were willing him to score, and showed their appreciation whenever he did well. Everyone was delighted for him when he scored the penalty.

Second half, he was barely involved and had some poor touches, but still got a standing ovation when he was substituted. I understand why some fans are still slightly disappointed. He is still to repeat his stand out performance at Exeter, and since then we have only seen glimpses of his brilliance.

Last season if Bossie made mistakes or had a poor game fans got stick if it was even mentioned. Cannot help thinking that some people are similarly becoming a bit precious and overprotective about JA now.”
