A clean Slate?

The great thing about the opening day of the season is that all teams start equal. With Accy at the top of the table for once, all things are possible too. Oh come come, this is the 21st Century Football League, and like life some must be more equal than others. Thus Luton, fresh from knocking their latest batch of creditors, sign 11 players in 24 hours to help to overcome their 30 point deduction.

Rotherham and Bournemouth also start at 17 under par, though let`s remember this is football and they will need to card at least sixty points to stay up. Things are on the up for the Phoenix Millers already. Keeper Mark Oxley has joined Hull for £150,000, though it will go higher should the 18 year old break into the Hull side. If that was not fishy enough Fenton has joined from Grimsby. Manager Mark Robins also signed a contract extention at the club until 2012.

Things are ripe with the Cherries too. Things have been so busy there this week I am surprised they found the time to accept the Leagues offer. Joel ward is in from Portsmouth, as is Sammy Igoe. Shwan Jalal is in on a one-month loan from Peterborough United. Yeovil defender Scott Guyett became AFC Bournemouth’s first signing of the summer on the first of August around the same time JJB announced a sponsorship deal.

The Imps of course did not have it so easy after administration, stayed within budget; and competed in League 2 on a realistic basis ever since. Our signings and youth development policy should be rewarded if there is such a thing as justice. And poetically that will begin at Rotherham today.

It is doubtful that the Leagues policy, or the sportsmanship of the clubs, or should we call them franchises, will halt more taking up the Pheonix option however.
