After the 1-0 defeat at Port Vale, we asked: “What 3 things did we learn against Port Vale?

1. If at first you don’t succeed, try something different. Port Vale matched the Imps physically throughout a close game that could have gone either way but it became apparent that they were very organised and it felt like we were besieging a castle with a pea shooter. The Port Vale defence kept shape and discipline, in particular, the towering centre-half who gobbled everything up commendably.

2. Having a game plan that the players know and trust is very important and should be lauded but there were times when the game was crying out for City players to just take a moment to have a look and play with a little more composure. That could have been achieved without disrupting the style of play.

3. We got into some good positions but too often the delivery in was either over hit or floated in without a real purpose. Port Vale were a team that demonstrated their ability to deal with balls into the box of that nature, as no doubt Wycombe will be equally as adept. Ahead of a tough physical battle tomorrow night I hope the Imps were practising Monday at fizzing quality balls into the box with well-timed runs from Whitehouse and the opposite wide man; also Freck taking up positions on the edge of the box for the breakdown.
